Conservas Cerqueira

History

Conservas Cerqueira was founded in 1890 by João Baptista Cerqueira. Its first plant in Vigo processed mainly sardines, and exports soon became a key part of the business.

In the 1940s, rising demand for canned seafood drove our expansion with the acquisition of the Ribeira plant, dedicated to the processing of shellfish, particularly mussels.

Continued growth and evolving market demands led us, in 2023, to inaugurate a new production facility in the town of Rianxo. Designed with sustainability and the modern consumer in mind, this state-of-the-art plant supports the ongoing industrial development of Conservas Cerqueira and helps secure its future.

Today, we offer a portfolio of our own brands, including PAY PAY, RAMONA, BUENOS DÍAS, and LA LOLA. In addition, we specialize in the development and supply of private-label products for our partners.

Decades of experience in the sector stand behind the quality and sustainability of our products. Deep know-how, carefully selected raw materials, and the preservation of our most traditional recipes define our identity.

Production capacity and quality

With a total area of 10,000 m² and a processing capacity of up to 300,000 cans per day, this facility preserves Conservas Cerqueira’s original location, operating near the sea since 1890. Specializing in tuna, cephalopods, and sardines, it combines a deep-rooted canning tradition with efficient processes tailored to today’s market demands.

The facility covers 18,000 m² and has a processing capacity of up to 400,000 cans per day. Inaugurated in 2023, it incorporates the most advanced technological and sustainable solutions in the industry, both from an industrial and environmental standpoint.

It features an automated cold-storage warehouse with capacity for 3,000 pallets, as well as a dry-storage area capable of holding up to 5,000 pallets.

Specializing in seafood, cephalopods, and tuna, this facility stands as a clear example of how tradition and innovation come together in the modern food industry.
